Hundreds of passengers were stranded at Birmingham Airport on Wednesday when a plane was forced to make an emergency landing, closing the runway for several hours.
The incident occurred at 1:40 p.m. local time, with authorities announcing a temporary suspension of all flights, leading to at least 25 cancellations to European destinations.
The Beechcraft B200 Super King Air, which was flying to Belfast, experienced a problem with its landing gear and was forced to land partially without wheels. Three people on board received medical treatment at the scene, while one person suffered minor injuries, according to West Midlands Police.
Due to the incident, many flights were diverted to Manchester and East Midlands airports, while passengers were advised not to travel to Birmingham without confirming their itinerary in advance. Check-in areas and security remained temporarily closed.
In the afternoon, shortly before 20:00, the airport announced the reopening of the runway and the restoration of routes. At the same time, it apologized for the inconvenience and urged passengers to follow the airline's instructions.
