The White House has stated that the US is open to training Ukrainian pilots with F-16 jets on US soil, but adding that the process is complicated and will take time.
" The reason we are doing this is part of a longer and broader effort to make sure that we continue to improve Ukraine's self-defense and military capabilities for the long term. It will be some time before aircraft can appear in Ukraine and have them integrated into the air fleet ," National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby said Friday.
Kirby said that in addition to the transfer of aircraft and training pilots, Ukrainian allies also had to put in place all maintenance logistics for modern aircraft like the F-16 so that the allies' investment would not go to waste.
" We will support Ukraine for as long as it takes. We have been eager to move forward with providing Ukraine with that long-term capability, and eager is a good word for it. If training capacity is achieved in Europe, we certainly We are open to training Ukrainian pilots here in the United States ," Kirby concluded.
