US and EU failure with Vucic, German press: Berlin is the only one that can
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic

The three major German media have devoted an article to the situation in the Western Balkans, as well as the failed strategy of the USA and the EU to bring "Serbian domination" under control.

This dominance, writes "Blic", must be broken. According to diplomats and sources cited by the newspaper, everything indicates that some power centers in the West are trying to change their approach to our region and undertake a tougher policy.

One measure could be "cutting off financial taps" that few states in the Western Balkans can afford for more than a few weeks, analysts say.

"Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" claims that "Russia in Europe can count on three allies". In the EU member state of Hungary, in Serbia, a candidate country, and in the Bosnian Serb-controlled half of Bosnia and Herzegovina, rulers are loyal to Putin, albeit to varying degrees, author Michael Martens writes in the article.

"Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić is not as openly pro-Russian as Dodik. Serbia even supported the UN General Assembly resolution against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. On the other hand, Belgrade has not joined the European sanctions against Russia and supports it wherever it can", wrote Martens.

Berlin-based Tages Zeitung, in an article by author Erich Rathfelder, writes that "the EU and the US want to win over Serbian nationalists with a policy of understanding, which is a dangerous course."

Finally, "Berliner Zeitung" publishes a text by guest author Muamer Beqirovic, entitled "Serbia's domination must be broken". Bećirović believes that only Germany can do this, calling it to play the role of Austria-Hungary in the Western Balkans before the First World War.

"The only country that can establish order in the Balkans and secure its strategic interests in the region is Germany. "It is by far the most important trade partner for Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia, and geographically it is only a few hundred kilometers away," Beqirović estimates.

Đukić says that the soft policy of the USA and the EU towards Belgrade and the Western Balkans is clear that it has not borne fruit and that is why there is dissatisfaction.

Đukić explains that the international community is now trying to restart relations between Belgrade and Pristina and return to the situation after the Ohrid Agreement.

"Everything shows that the West will adopt a tougher policy towards Belgrade and will no longer rely on promises. I think that in September, the EU and the US will inaugurate a new agenda for the Western Balkans. Apart from Berlin and London, which are traditionally present in this region, Washington will also play a leading role, without which nothing can succeed," says Djukić.
