Britain on Sunday warned its citizens traveling to Sweden of possible terror attacks after cases of Korans being burned by anti-Islamic activists, an act that has angered Muslims.
In updated travel guidance, Britain's Foreign Office said Swedish authorities had successfully prevented several planned attacks and made arrests.
"You should exercise great care and attention during this period," the announcement said, adding that "it is very likely that terrorists will try to carry out attacks in Sweden," and areas visited by foreigners are potential targets.
In a statement acknowledging the change in travel guidelines by British authorities, Sweden's National Security Adviser Henrik Landerholm reiterated the growing threats to Sweden since the Koran burnings.
Mr Landerholm said the attack on the Swedish embassy in Iraq on July 19, an attempted attack on its embassy in Lebanon on August 9, and also the shooting attack on August 1 at the Swedish consulate in Turkey, influenced the risk assessment.
Based on laws protecting freedom of expression, in Sweden burning the Koran is allowed, but for Muslims burning their holy book is blasphemy.
Even the United States government has warned American citizens about possible terrorist attacks in Sweden, in its statements about traveling abroad./ VOA
