Gustavo Petro said he would "take up arms" in the face of threats from his counterpart Donald Trump.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum have reacted to the arrest of Nicolas Maduro by the US.
Petro also publicly responded to Donald Trump's accusations, calling them slander and demanding that he stop the personal attacks.
Petro has called on "X" to Trump and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, asking them to stop, according to him, defaming his public figure.
"I am not an illegal president nor a drug trafficker. My name does not appear in any drug trafficking case ," Petro wrote.
Gustavo Petro said he would "take up arms" in the face of threats from his counterpart Donald Trump.
"I swore that I would never touch a weapon again, but for the homeland I will take up arms again," he said.
The Colombian head of state also recalled his achievements in the war on drugs, claiming that in his capacity as supreme commander of the armed forces, he ordered what he described as the largest cocaine seizure in world history.
In his reaction, Petro stated that he has full confidence in the Colombian people and that for this reason he has asked citizens to protect the institution of the president from any act, in his opinion, illegal or violent against it.
Meanwhile, Mexican President Sheinbaum reiterated on Monday Mexico's opposition to the extradition of the Venezuelan president by Washington and to any kind of intervention in Mexico.
"We categorically reject interference in the internal affairs of other countries," Sheinbaum said.
The Mexican leader added that Mexico is a sovereign country and is cooperating with the US on drug trafficking and security, after her US counterpart Donald Trump over the weekend hinted at military action in Mexico to fight drug cartels.
"It is necessary to reaffirm that in Mexico the people rule and that we are a free and sovereign country, cooperation, yes; submission and interference, no," Sheinbaum said.
