"US President Joe Biden's claim that Russia will attack a NATO country if it wins the war in Ukraine is "complete nonsense", said Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding that Russia has no interest in fighting the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) military alliance.
The US president warned earlier this month that if Putin wins the war in Ukraine then Russia will attack a NATO country.
“This is absolutely nonsense, and I think President Biden understands that,” Putin said in an interview broadcast today by state-run Rossiya television.
He also noted that this is an attempt by Biden to justify his "wrong policy" regarding Russia.
"Russia has no reason, no interest, no geopolitical, economic, political or military interest to fight with NATO countries", the Russian president emphasized.
But despite his statements, Putin has warned of unspecified "problems" with Finland, and said he has ordered the creation of a new military district in the border regions with the Nordic state.
His comments come as tensions rise between the two neighboring countries as a result of Russia's war in Ukraine starting in February 2022 and Finland's swift decision to join NATO.
In recent weeks, Finland has completely closed its borders with Russia, due to the increase in the number of migrants, mainly from the Middle East, with asylum requests.
The growing number of migrants gathered at border points has strengthened Finland's beliefs that Russian authorities are trying to push migrants to travel to Finland, with the aim of destabilizing the state.
