Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said the local elections scheduled for March 31 will be his last, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported Friday.
"This is a final for me, according to the mandate given by the law, these are my last elections," Erdogan said.
"The result that will come out will be the transfer of an inheritance to my brothers and sisters who will come after me", he was quoted as saying by Anadolu.
Erdogan, modern Turkey's longest-serving politician, has led the country for more than two decades. He has won a number of since 2002, Erdogan was re-elected to a five-year term in contested elections in May 2023.
