Before a closed-door Security Council meeting in New York, Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan compared the attack to "Israel's 9/11" and said Israel will do anything to bring our sons and daughters home.
"Israel suffered an unprecedented attack and the number of victims is catastrophic, truly immeasurable. Over the last two days after the Hamas surprise attack on Israel, my country has suffered hundreds of casualties. Yesterday, on the early morning of the Jewish Sabbath and on a Jewish holiday, the ferocious Hamas terrorists fired 1,000 rockets into Israel, but that was only the beginning", he said in a communication with journalists.
He also said that ruthless terrorists killed innocent Israeli civilians in the streets, killing anything that moved, anything.
"I'll give you just one example. Just look at this photo of women's bodies scattered, on the street, at a bus stop, innocent, killed, in cold blood. These animal-like terrorists entered the house, collected whole families in rooms and shot them as if they were stepping on insects.
"Grandparents and the elderly, among them Holocaust survivors who endured the Nazis, were dragged from their homes, this time by Hamas, and taken to Gaza," the ambassador said .
The Israeli ambassador further stated that Israel will not allow the world to forget the atrocities that our country suffered. This is exactly why this atrocity is Israel's 9/11, now nothing will be the same.
"Listen to this young girl screaming as she is kidnapped separated from her friend not knowing what fate awaits her. Try to understand the magnitude of this situation, try to digest the merciless inhumanity.
I saw shocking graphic images that will forever be etched in my brain. The international community and especially the UN and the Security Council have a very short memory when it comes to Israel. The terror we endure quickly becomes a side note, but this time it won't be the same. We will not let the world forget the atrocities our country suffered. This is exactly why this atrocity is Israel's 9/11, now nothing will be the same. I promise you that today we are breaking the paradigm, changing the equation for 17 years since Israel unilaterally withdrew from Gaza and since Hamas came to power, the world has tried to reason with these terrorists, barbaric terrorists. The international community tried to rehabilitate Gaza, providing $10 billion in aid. friends, these funds did not go to the construction of schools or hospitals. It was only used for terror."said the Israeli ambassador.
