French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have reacted to the results of the elections in Hungary, congratulating opposition leader Péter Magyar on his victory.
In a message published on the social network "X", Macron stressed the importance of democratic participation and Hungary's European orientation.
"I just spoke with Péter Magyar to congratulate him on his victory in Hungary! France welcomes the victory of democratic participation, the commitment of the Hungarian people to the values of the European Union and Hungary's commitment to Europe. Let us move forward together towards a more sovereign Europe, for the security of our continent, our competitiveness and our democracy," Macron wrote.
On the other hand, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz spoke of future cooperation with the new Hungarian leader.
"The Hungarian people have decided. My heartfelt congratulations on your electoral success. I look forward to working with you. Let us join forces for a strong, secure and, above all, united Europe ," he declared.
Both European leaders praised the election result as an expression of democratic will and expressed their willingness to strengthen cooperation with Hungary under the new political leadership.
