Preliminary vote counting in Hungary's parliamentary elections is giving the opposition an advantage, with leader Péter Magyar appearing increasingly confident of the final result.

According to initial data, with 29.2% of the votes counted, his Tisza party is securing 136 seats out of a total of 199. At the same time, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party is significantly behind, with 59 seats, according to Europe Elects.

Magyar's reaction initially came via a short message on social media: "Thank you Hungary!" He then added that "Prime Minister Viktor Orbán congratulated us on our victory over the phone."

In statements after the vote closed, the opposition leader expressed optimism, but stressed that the process must be followed carefully. He raised concerns about possible attempts at manipulation, warning that any violations would be investigated.

"Anyone who has committed or instigated electoral fraud will be held accountable before the law," he said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has not made any public comment on the preliminary results so far. He confirmed at the event awaiting the results that he had congratulated Hungarian Péter on his victory.
