US President Donald Trump hosted Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for a meeting today. But the press conference became tense after some questions from an Italian journalist. Meloni, in this case, put herself in the position of mediator, trying to defuse the atmosphere.
Tensions rose when Trump was asked about his statements to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whom he has previously accused, along with his predecessor Joe Biden, of involvement in starting the war in Ukraine.
The journalist asked Meloni a question in Italian, asking her reaction to Trump's stance on Zelensky. The Italian Prime Minister gave a lengthy response, also in Italian, while Trump commented humorously: "It was so beautiful. What... what did he say?"
❗️I don't hold Zelensky responsible for the war, Trump said.

But I'm not exactly thrilled with the fact that that war started ... so I'm not happy with him."

The situation became more tense when the interpreter, visibly nervous, tried to translate the question. Sensing the nervousness in the room, Meloni quickly changed the subject, emphasizing Italy's commitment to increasing military spending in line with NATO's target of 2% of GDP.
After this intervention, Trump clarified: “I don’t blame Zelensky, but I’m not thrilled with the idea that this war started.” He noted the high cost of the war and added: “I’m not happy with him or anyone else involved.”
He further emphasized: "I don't blame him, but I can't say he did the best job. I'm not a big fan of his."
LOL: This Italian reporter completely FLOPPED on his question trying to pin down President Trump!

The conference also saw another awkward moment, when an Italian journalist asked Trump if he had ever called Europe a “parasite.” Meloni questioned the statement, while Trump categorically denied it.
When asked if he intended to "make Europe great again," he replied: "I hope Europe becomes great again."
