US President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni answered press questions in the Oval Office after their closed-door meeting.
Meloni initially said that she and Trump share "the fight against the ideology of 'Woke' and DEI (diversity, equality and inclusion) which, according to her, would erase history. She said that with Trump they can work to address many issues together.
Meloni went on to say that the goal for Europe and the US is to make the West great again. Meloni also noted that Trump has accepted an official visit to Rome, which she mentioned earlier.
"I know when I talk primarily about the West, I'm not talking about geographical space. I'm talking about a civilization and I want to make that civilization stronger ," she added.
Speaking about the partnership between the US and Italy, Meloni also touched on the war in Ukraine.
"Together we defended Ukraine's freedom, together we can bring lasting peace ," she said.
She then handed the floor to Trump, who said his administration was "going well" and that Meloni had been helpful.
A reporter asks Trump how long he has to respond to Putin's ceasefire proposal before the US imposes sanctions. Trump said he will hear from Russia this week and wants the killing to stop.
