A massive fire tore through the overnight hours today (August 26) in one of the buildings in a six-storey block of flats in Dagenham, east London.
Over two hundred firefighters were on the scene. At least a hundred people, including children, were evacuated and two injured were taken to hospital.
As the BBC reported, the scaffolding around the building on Freshwater Road was engulfed in flames, as were parts of the building up to the sixth floor and the roof. So far, there are no reports of casualties or the cause of the fire, as "La Repubblica" also published the terrifying images of the flames consuming the building.
" The fire is producing heavy smoke and we advise local residents to keep their windows and doors closed ," said fire station commander Alan Bendell.
The road was closed to traffic while the investigation is still active.
