France on fire from protests, Macron appears dancing at a concert in Paris

A video showing Emmanuel Macron at an Elton John concert in Paris last Wednesday has gone viral online, in the second night of violent incidents to erupt in the country since a teenager was shot dead by a police officer.

In the video making the rounds on the network, Macron is seen dancing to the music at the Accor Arena in Paris. Almost 24 hours ago, 17-year-old Nael M. was almost shot by a police officer during a traffic control, losing his life.

The incident sparked a new wave of unrest, which started on the outskirts of the French capital and spread to several other cities, with experts now fearing a spread of violence.

Elton John's partner, David Furnish, posted a photo on Instagram on Thursday of the French president and his wife Brigitte, captioned "Backstage in Paris."

The French president's decision to attend the concert, which is part of the British artist's farewell tour, at a time when it had already become clear that his country was sinking into another crisis, has been commented particularly negatively in recent hours in social networks. Yesterday morning, a few hours after his exit and before leaving for Brussels, Macron had already called the first meeting of the interministerial crisis unit with ministers and directors of administrations in the Ministry of the Interior, denouncing the "unjustified" violence.

After the third night of yesterday's incidents, in which 250 police officers were injured and around 670 people, mostly young people, the French president decided to speed up his return from Brussels, where he is attending the EU summit, to be present in another ministerial meeting on crisis management at 14:00.

Yesterday's outbreak of violence resulted in the burning of hundreds of public buildings and cars. According to the first estimates, about 500 buildings and 2000 cars have been destroyed. The French urban transport organization said that today 20 lines will not be in service due to burning buses.

In Paris, there were attacks on clothing and food stores. The mayor of the town of Denin on the French border with Belgium said three quarters of the town had been destroyed.

A total of 667 people were arrested overnight in France, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced, as riots erupted for a third consecutive night across the country following the killing of a young man by a police officer earlier this week.

"Tonight our police, security guards and firefighters faced rare violence once again. According to my instructions for strictness, 667 arrests have been made", the minister wrote on Twitter after another night of violence marked by looting and destruction of public property.
