First punishment then forgiveness: the co-treasonous treatment of the head of the Wagner troupe, Prigozhin, has caused confusion. Russia is insecure.
"Pack your things and come to us as soon as possible!" Such appeals have been received by many in the Russian South from their friends and society in different parts of Russia. The situation in the region since the beginning of the war, due to its proximity to Ukraine, has been tense, but last weekend it became dangerous. This time the danger came from the Russian troops themselves, more precisely from Yevgeny Prigozhin's "Wagner" armed troops.
"Treason in wartime is a crime"
"My neighbor downstairs in the building got a call from the girl: Mom, you don't have to stay in Rostov anymore, come to us," an elderly woman from Rostov-on-Don, a city that was temporarily occupied by Russian troops, told Deutsche Wellen.
There was not only fear and uncertainty there, as no one knew how far Prigozhin would go with his army. His people were located about 200 km away from the Russian capital, Moscow. The mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, called on the population not to make excursions in the surroundings.

Is the power of the state disintegrating?
Russian state media had to explain the confusing situation to their public again. If in an extraordinary critical situation they no longer fulfill their function, but have the opposite effect, then… to hell with them!”
For the Russian philosopher Denis Grekov, Simonyan's explanation is nothing more than a declaration of the failure of the Russian state. In a conversation with Deutsche Wellen, he states that "a state in which there is no longer a monopoly of power and there is no longer a unified power, and where legal norms no longer apply, is essentially no longer a state."
Propaganda researcher, Maria Borsunova, in a conversation with DW, concludes that "Margarita Simonjan tries to explain that, as a whole, the system of laws and criminal prosecution in Russia is oriented towards needs. "Patriotic public opinion"
Denis Grekov expects Prigozhin to be admired even further in the so-called "patriotic public opposition" in Russia. The fighting that the private army carried out for several months in Bahmut was raised in the Russian media as an "act of heroes". Many are disappointed by Defense Minister Shoigu and President Putin. Next year, many Russians will elect a new president.
