Genocide in Gaza, Erdogan threatens Netanyahu: Plan to destabilize the Middle
Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says plans to isolate the Middle East region will fail and the "imperialist and Zionist authors of bloodshed" will not be able to achieve their goals.

"The strongest response to this 23-month genocide witnessed by all of humanity will again come from Turkey and its nation," Erdogan said at a public ceremony in Ankara.

“We ruled for centuries in lands where those who challenge us came only two or three generations ago. We were the sword of justice, bringing order to the world. We are neither guests nor invaders in this region. We have been its hosts for a thousand years and will remain here until the end of time.”

As it had warned, Israel yesterday launched its ground offensive in Gaza by sending tanks and remote-controlled armored vehicles filled with explosives into the city's streets, defying international criticism and the findings of the UN commission on genocide in the Palestinian territory.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the goals of the offensive are to defeat the enemy and evacuate the population, but not to stop at any point at the release of Israeli hostages, which was the goal of the war.

Families of hostages and their supporters protested near Netanyahu's Jerusalem residence on Tuesday, accusing him of abandoning their loved ones.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said it was clear that Israel has no interest in a peaceful outcome.

"Israel is determined to go all the way and is not open to serious negotiations for a ceasefire, with dramatic consequences from Israel's point of view," Guterres said.

Officials from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said two divisions were involved in the ground advance toward the center of Gaza City, with one division surrounding it. They estimated the invading force would face up to 3,000 Hamas and allied fighters, and said Israeli forces would advance cautiously.

Some of the main weapons used in the offensive are old-style armored personnel carriers, converted to be remotely controlled and packed with explosives.
