A large police operation is underway in the town of Rendsburg, in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, after an armed man was found inside a bar.
According to initial reports from the German newspaper Bild, parts of the city center have been cordoned off by authorities, while several people are inside the bar and being held hostage.
Numerous police forces, equipped with automatic weapons, helmets and shields, have set up a security perimeter in a wide area around the Schlossplatz and Schiffbrückenplatz squares.
Police announced that so far no one has been injured. Special units have also been deployed to the scene, while the area remains blocked for security reasons.
Authorities have not yet released the suspected perpetrator's motives or possible demands. It also remains unclear whether other people were involved in the incident.
