An explosion occurred at a nightclub during a concert in Mexico, causing extensive property damage and dozens of injuries. The incident occurred at the Dalí discotheque, during a live performance by the Mexican cumbia band Amor Rebelde.
According to Mexican media, the Regional Health Directorate in La Libertad confirmed that at least 40 people were injured by the explosion of an explosive device. Five of them are in critical condition and are being treated in hospital.
The attack took place in the Víctor Larco Herrera area of Trujillo province. The explosion caused panic among those present, as dozens of people rushed towards the club's exits.
The newspaper La República reported that some of the injured, who have now been released from hospital, described the moments of chaos. A 26-year-old said he was spending the evening with friends when he saw an object fall before the explosion. “I saw it and everything went dark. My nose started bleeding a lot,” he said.
Another injured woman said she initially thought the noise was a problem with the club's speakers. According to her, the explosion shattered glass and other objects inside the venue. "I was in the middle of the club. Glass fragments went into my legs and I have stitches in my stomach," she said.
Authorities have arrested two adults and a juvenile as suspects in the attack. According to preliminary investigations, the incident may be linked to extortion cases by criminal groups operating in the La Libertad region.
Investigators are also looking into a possible connection to a previous incident at the same nightclub. A few weeks earlier, a person had thrown tear gas inside the venue, causing alarm among customers. According to police investigations, the Los Pulpos criminal organization is suspected of being behind that incident.
