Norwegian police report minor damage; investigation into cause of explosion ongoing
A loud explosion was heard near the United States Embassy in Oslo in the early hours of Sunday, Norwegian police said. Authorities said the cause of the explosion and the people involved were not yet clear.
According to the AFP news agency, police in Oslo confirmed that the explosion occurred at around 01:00 local time. No injuries were reported.
Norwegian public broadcaster NRK quoted the commander of the police operation, Michael Dellemyr, as saying the explosion hit the entrance to the consular section of the US embassy.
"Around 01:00 we received several reports of an explosion. We arrived a little later and confirmed that there had been an explosion that hit the US Embassy," he told NRK.

Officials have confirmed that an explosive device was placed near the entrance.
It is unknown who the suspect is at this time or whether this is related to Iran.

According to him, minor damage was recorded from the explosion. Authorities did not provide details on the nature of the damage or the type of vehicle that may have caused the explosion, stressing that the investigation is still in the initial stages.
In another statement to TV2, Dellemyr said that the police have "an idea about the cause," adding that according to the preliminary assessment, the act appears to have been committed by one person.
Residents living near the embassy reported hearing a loud explosion at the time of the incident. Police cordoned off a large area around the building, stopping vehicles and restricting access while emergency crews responded to the scene.
The incident comes at a time when American diplomatic missions are on heightened alert due to rising tensions between the United States and Iran. According to international reports, several American embassies and facilities in the Middle East have faced threats or attacks during the recent escalation of the conflict.
