An armed attack on an armored vehicle occurred this morning along the highway, heading north, near the Ortona area, in the province of Chieti in Italy, causing traffic chaos and panic among drivers.
According to Italian authorities, the robbery took place at around 06:30, with the perpetrators using firearms, explosives and burning vehicles to stop traffic and block the intervention of law enforcement. The robbers fired at the armored vehicle to force it to stop, then used explosives to open the vehicle and the safe, while the guards were still inside.
At the scene, the perpetrators threw metal nails and burned at least two vehicles, before speeding away in powerful cars, taking an amount of around 400 thousand euros.
As a result of the smoke from the flames, two people were slightly injured, one from Rome and one from the province of Chieti. They were treated on site by the 118 emergency service and refused hospitalization.
The A14 Bologna–Taranto motorway, in the segment between Val di Sangro and Pescara Sud, has been closed to traffic, with a traffic queue of about 5 kilometers reported.
