Senior Hamas official Mahmoud Mardawi has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of imposing impossible conditions that, according to him, are intended to prevent the reaching of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement.
Mardawi said Netanyahu is refusing to commit to the components of a deal he himself previously approved. He added that the Israeli prime minister is insisting on releasing only 10 prisoners at a time, rather than releasing them all.
"Netanyahu is lying when he claims he is not involved in choosing the names of the hostages to be released in the deal. He does not want a deal," Mardawi wrote on Telegram.
These statements come at a time when international efforts to broker a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip continue to encounter difficulties.
