German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said he hopes Germany will establish a joint cyber research center with Israel as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation in the fields of intelligence and security.
"Military protection alone is not enough for this turning point in security. A significant improvement in civil protection is also essential to strengthen our overall defensive capabilities ," Dobrindt told German newspaper Bild during a visit to Israel.
Germany, one of Israel's closest allies in Europe, has shown interest in acquiring Israel's advanced experience and expertise in the field of defense.
Meanwhile, last year Germany faced the International Court of Justice over its arms exports to Israel. However, the Hague-based court did not issue interim measures to stop these transfers.
