Qatar's foreign ministry spokesman has confirmed that the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has now been extended by two days.
"The State of Qatar announces, as part of the ongoing mediation, that an agreement has been reached to extend the humanitarian ceasefire for two more days in the Gaza Strip," said Dr Majed al Ansari.
Hamas has also confirmed the ceasefire, but there is still no comment from the Israeli side.
"The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas announces that it has agreed with its brothers in Qatar and Egypt to extend the temporary humanitarian ceasefire for two more days under the same conditions as the previous ceasefire," a Hamas statement said.
The deal, brokered by Qatar backed by Egypt and the US, which came into force on Friday, called for a four-day ceasefire that included the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza and the release of 50 of the more than 200 hostages held in Palestinian enclave, in exchange for the release of 150 Palestinian prisoners.
Hamas was the first to demand an extension of the four-day ceasefire with Israel, which marked the release of dozens of Palestinian youths and women held in Israeli prisons. The militant group said in a statement that such a deal would only come true if Israel committed to freeing more Palestinians.
Even Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu previously admitted that he was willing to extend the ceasefire if 10 hostages were released each day. But the Israeli leader does not give up on his objectives to destroy Hamas in every cell. /Sky News
