Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has expressed the European Union's support after the strong earthquake that shook Myanmar.

The tremors of the 7.7-magnitude earthquake with an epicenter 16 kilometers northwest of Saigang, Myanmar, were also felt in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, where a building under construction collapsed.
Footage published on social media shows the moment the skyscraper collapsed and the workers fled in panic.
Some residents reported water gushing out of swimming pools due to the powerful tremors, while several tall buildings shook for several seconds. The epicenter of the quake was about 17.2 km from Mandalay city, which has a population of about 1.2 million, according to the USGS.
