The two National Guard soldiers who were attacked in downtown Washington and a short distance from the White House are still in critical condition.
The perpetrator, who has already been arrested, was also slightly injured.
FBI Director Kash Patel has described the attack as a terrorist attack.
" This is a terrorism investigation. We are fully investigating this aspect of his past, to include any known associates of his who are either abroad or here in the United States, so it looks like a broad international terrorism investigation ," said FBI Director Kash Patel.
He said that the perpetrator's weapon is being examined in laboratories, while his apartment has also been searched, where many electronic devices (cell phones, tablets and laptops) were found.
At a press conference today, District of Columbia Attorney Jeanine Piro said the injured are Sarah Backstrom, 20, and Andrew Wolf, 24. They underwent surgery but are not out of danger.

Both are members of the West Virginia National Guard and were deployed to Washington as part of Donald Trump's anti-crime measures.
Piro said the perpetrator ambushed the victims. He shot one of them first and then a second time when he was down, and also shot the second victim several times.

But he was quickly neutralized by other soldiers who were at the scene.
