Iranian state media portrays the attack as retaliation for strikes on nuclear infrastructure.
Iran said the missile attack on the Dimona area in southern Israel was in retaliation for the US and Israel striking the Bushehr nuclear power plant and the Natanz nuclear facilities. The claim was published by the Iranian Tasnim news agency and repeated by other Iranian state media.
Tasnim wrote that “the enemy has once again learned an unforgettable lesson” and that the attack in the Dimona area was intended to send the message that “no area is safe from Iranian missiles.” This formulation reflects the official Iranian position and should be seen as a political statement by Tehran, not an independent assessment.
The Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center, commonly known as the Dimona reactor, is located in the Negev Desert, about 13 kilometers southeast of the city of Dimona, in southern Israel. The facility is considered one of Israel's most strategically sensitive installations.
39 people remain injured in the attack, according to the Israeli emergency service Magen David Adom.
Authorities report that a 10-year-old boy is in serious condition after suffering shrapnel wounds. A woman was moderately injured by glass fragments.
According to the same source, 37 other people received minor injuries. This category also includes people who suffered anxiety as a result of the attack.
