"Criminal and child killer"/ Revolutionary Guards threaten Benjamin Netanyahu with death

Shkruar nga Pamfleti

The so-called ‘War of Salvation’ that Netanyahu launched after these attacks has already reshaped the Middle East and brought Israel into direct conflict with its enemy in Tehran. Netanyahu has made a career of defending himself against the Iranian threat. He now faces a new political chapter in the wake of this conflict, whether or not that threat remains.

The Revolutionary Guard, Iran's ideological army, has vowed to "hunt down and kill" Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on the 16th day of the war between the Islamic Republic, Israel and the US.

If "this criminal," "child killer," "Zionist prime minister" is "still alive, we will continue to pursue and kill him," the Revolutionary Guards said on their Sepah News website.

There is a new and concerted effort by Israel's military and political leaders to present Iran's war achievements as changes in the Middle East, even without the regime change in Tehran, which is what the Israeli prime minister is focused on.

Benjamin Netanyahu has spent decades preparing for this confrontation with Iran; his long political career is anchored in his pledge to defend Israel against its Iranian enemy.

Seizing the opportunity to wage war directly against the regime, alongside the most powerful military in the world, his rhetoric about the war has been extravagant, describing it as "a campaign fatal to our very existence."

The Israeli army chief of staff has called it "an operation to secure our existence and future in the land of our ancestors for generations to come."

One of Netanyahu's former national security advisers has described it as "a golden opportunity to change the direction of the entire Middle East."

The question facing Netanyahu now is: without regime change in Tehran, how long before next time?

Military officials say the damage to Iran's weapons programs this time is much deeper than before, with its production sites and leadership targeted along with missile stockpiles and launchers.

"Some of them are permanent, and some of them are semi-permanent," said Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani, a spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), describing the military objective as removing threats "for an extended period of time."

Major General Yaakov Amidror, a former Israeli national security adviser and senior fellow at the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security, says that even without the Iranians taking to the streets, Israel can achieve its main goals while leaving the regime too weak to threaten it.

"If we could achieve regime change, that would change the Middle East. But we know our limitations, we are not a superpower and we must be humble in our decisions," he said.

A key question is whether Israel will continue to fight on this front, even if Washington ends the campaign in Iran.

And whether military advantage, whether in Gaza or Lebanon, can lead to peace without trusted political partners and political agreements.

Despite widespread war fatigue after more than two years of ongoing conflict, public opinion in Israel has remained strongly supportive of this regional war. And Benjamin Netanyahu is widely expected to use this moment to redeem his political legacy, following the security failures that led to the October 7 attacks, and push ahead with elections due later this year.
