Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has stated that European Union authorities have secretly begun examining the possibilities of creating nuclear weapons production capabilities.
According to Russian intelligence, analytical work is underway within EU structures to study possible ways to build such capabilities. The SVR claims that these efforts are presented by European officials as measures to curb a perceived threat from Russia, but warns that such a development could undermine the global security architecture.
In the same statement, the Russian service also refers to the role of some member states, noting that technical expertise exists in countries such as Germany. According to the SVR, research and industrial infrastructure in several German cities could be used to produce nuclear materials in a relatively short time.
The statement also includes criticism of the leaders of European institutions, portraying their policies as dangerous to international stability. These assessments represent the official position of Russian intelligence and are not confirmed by independent sources.
The SVR emphasizes that any step towards the development of nuclear weapons by the EU would negatively affect the international non-proliferation system and risk triggering a new arms race. In this context, the Russian authorities call on international actors, including the United States, to take measures to prevent such a scenario.
