Iran strikes in the Persian Gulf, Trump talks about withdrawal

The attack on the tanker near Qatar and the explosions in Isfahan show that the conflict is moving outside any controlled diplomatic framework...

The escalation of the US-Israeli-Iran war has entered an even more dangerous phase, after a missile launched by Iran hit an oil tanker in Qatari territorial waters. According to the Qatari Ministry of Defense, out of three missiles launched, one hit the ship, but without causing casualties. The news is significant not only from a military perspective, but because it directly affects the energy security of the Gulf and the most sensitive routes of world oil trade.

At the same time, US President Donald Trump has declared that Iran “does not have to make a deal” to end the war, claiming that the operation could be concluded within “two to three weeks.” Reuters reported that Trump presents the US objective as decisively weakening Iranian capabilities, especially to thwart any possibility of Tehran developing nuclear weapons, and not necessarily as the product of a classic diplomatic agreement.

This is the strongest signal yet that Washington is trying to control the political narrative of the war: to maintain maximum military pressure, while at the same time leaving the door open for a quick exit from the conflict. The problem is that the reality on the ground is moving in the opposite direction. The attack on the tankers, the tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, and the attacks scattered throughout the region show that the war is no longer just between Iran and Israel, but is risking engulfing the entire security architecture of the Gulf. This carries direct consequences for energy markets, maritime transport, and global economic stability.

In parallel, reports also speak of strikes on Isfahan, an area of strategic importance for Iran's industrial and military infrastructure. Footage verified by Reuters showed a large explosion and thick clouds of smoke in the city on March 31, 2026, reinforcing the impression that Iranian industrial targets are increasingly becoming the focus of attacks.

The attack on a tanker near Qatar is the clearest message yet that Tehran is seeking to show that, even under bombardment, it still has the capacity to strike at vital energy arteries in the Persian Gulf. On the other hand, Trump’s statement that the war could end without a deal is an attempt to avoid the perception of a long, costly and politically dangerous war for the US. In diplomatic terms, this means that Washington is testing the formula: “military victory, without a full political process”. But the history of the Middle East shows that a war that ends without a deal usually only produces another round of conflict./ Pamphlet
