Iran said it had launched a new wave of attacks on US facilities in the Persian Gulf, following a sixth consecutive night of US military operations against Iranian targets. The latest escalation comes as last month's ceasefire has been replaced by daily attacks and counterattacks.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that US forces carried out a new series of strikes to, according to it, "further degrade Iranian military capabilities." The targets hit were located on Qeshm Island and near Bandar Abbas, where Iran's largest port is located, as well as important naval and Revolutionary Guard bases.
According to the CENTCOM statement, fighter jets, drones and warships used precision munitions to strike dozens of military targets, including coastal surveillance systems, air defense, logistical infrastructure and naval capabilities.
On the other hand, Iranian authorities stated that they have continued missile and drone attacks on US military bases in neighboring countries. The Iranian military announced that in the early hours of Friday it hit US facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait, while earlier it had also targeted a US air base in Jordan.
Explosions were reported in Doha, Qatar, while the Qatari Interior Ministry announced that a child was injured by shrapnel.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported that US strikes hit five bridges, the railway station in Bandar Khamir and Iranshahr airport, in southeastern Iran.
According to the Iranian state news agency IRNA, seven people were killed in US strikes on bridges in Bandar Khamir, a port city in the south of the country. These reports have not been independently confirmed.
