US President Donald Trump has confirmed news that Iran has expressed a desire to talk to the US and reduce tensions with Israel.
From the G7 Summit in Canada where he is currently, Trump said that Tehran no longer has time for games, but stressed that they must speak quickly and be clear in their proposals, before it is too late. The American president further added that the war is not being won by Iran, making it clear that it is not in a position to maneuver.
" They have to make a deal and it's painful for both sides, but I would say Iran is not winning this war and they have to talk, and they have to talk right now, before it's too late," Trump told reporters at the start of a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Immediately after Iran's statement, oil prices fell by more than $2 a barrel on Monday, as Tehran raised the possibility of a ceasefire and eased fears of a disruption in crude supplies from the region.
Recall that the conflict began on Friday when Israel launched pre-dawn attacks that hit more than 100 targets, including nuclear facilities and missile sites, and killed senior military commanders and scientists.
This attack triggered an escalating series of hostile exchanges, raising fears of a wider and more dangerous regional war.
Residential areas in both countries have suffered deadly attacks since the outbreak of hostilities. As of Monday, Iran's health ministry said 224 people had been killed and 1,277 wounded.
