The Iranian parliament is expected to pass a law imposing new restrictions on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, state-run Press TV reported.

According to the report, citing deputy speaker of parliament Ali Nikzad, the 12-point plan stipulates that Israeli ships will never be allowed to pass through this strategic sea route.

Meanwhile, ships from countries considered "hostile," a possible reference to the United States, will have to pay war reparations to gain passage.

All other ships will be required to seek authorization from Iran to pass through the strait, according to the same source.

This move comes at a time when talks between Tehran and Washington are deadlocked, with both sides not backing down from their demands.

On Friday, Iran presented a revised peace proposal after US President Donald Trump rejected the previous version.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi declared that "the ball is in the US court to choose between diplomacy and confrontation," according to state broadcaster IRIB.
