US President Donald Trump's administration has approved arms sales worth over $8.6 billion to allies in the Middle East, bypassing the congressional review process.

According to the State Department, the decision was made under the argument of an "emergency situation," allowing Secretary of State Marco Rubio to immediately authorize the agreements.

The package includes various military supplies: Qatar will receive services for Patriot air defense systems worth $4.01 billion and APKWS systems worth $992.4 million. Kuwait will purchase an integrated combat command system for $2.5 billion.

Israel will also receive APKWS systems worth $992.4 million, while the United Arab Emirates has been approved for a $147.6 million package.

According to the State Department, the prime contractors for these deals are large defense companies such as BAE Systems, RTX, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman.

The decision comes at a sensitive moment, as the conflict between the US, Israel and Iran has entered its ninth week, with a fragile ceasefire in place for more than three weeks.

American military support for allies in the region has often been the subject of criticism, particularly due to concerns about human rights in Gulf countries and Israel's military operations in Gaza.

However, Washington has stressed that it will continue to support its allies in the region, considering this part of the strategy for security and stability in the Middle East.
