Former SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis has revealed one of the most surprising episodes of his relationship with Alexis Tsipras, during an interview where he commented on the clashes and disagreements between them.
In his account, Kasselakis says that the former prime minister was unaware of even basic facts of geography, revealing a moment that left him astonished.
He says that during a conversation, when he was still living in the US, he had told Tsipras about a tanker that had been seized in Texas. But his reaction was completely unexpected. " He asked me: Does Texas have a sea?" says Kasselakis, adding that he had to explain to him that Texas has an outlet to the Gulf of Mexico and even show him its location on a map.
" It's not just rodeo and the Wild West... there's a very big sea," he said ironically.
According to Kasselakis, the episode may seem humorous, but it shows a significant lack of knowledge for someone who has led a government. He includes this detail in his broader criticism of Tsipras, presenting it as an example of the former prime minister's disconnect from reality.
"He couldn't understand how I bought a shipping company and ships," Kasselakis said.
“'So, you currently have a company that owns ships. How did you get the ships, with a loan?'” Tsipras asked me. I explained that I convinced investors to trust my judgment so that we, with the analysis I had done, could invest in this sector. (15:39) He understood all this. His first reaction was: 'They gave you a loan!'
"I said, 'No, this is called equity,' but he didn't understand what I was saying," Kasselakis said.
