Zelensky: Trump is asking me to surrender!
Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump /

With Donald Trump in the White House and a West weary of conflict, Ukraine is facing immense pressure to accept the division of Donbas as the price for “immediate peace”; an offer that risks the country’s sovereignty...

At the highest level of global diplomacy, where the words “peace” and “compromise” often hide other interests, Ukraine is at a historic turning point. Trump, as the current President of the United States of America, has set a new agenda for the ongoing conflict with Russia, an agenda that demands a quick resolution and “peace” at any price. And that price is being measured in square kilometers of Ukrainian land.

In recent meetings, White House emissaries have made it clear to the government in Kiev that American support is no longer unconditional. On the contrary, the idea of creating a free and demilitarized economic zone in Donbas, with a partial withdrawal of Ukrainian troops, in exchange for an immediate ceasefire and promises of financial and political support, has been put on the table.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has remained adamant that not a single inch of Ukrainian land can be discussed without the consent of the people through democratic means. But when the demand for a referendum is met with pressure from a US President seeking a diplomatic “victory” before the next election session, the country’s balance shifts from principle to painful pragmatism.

Trump, focused on immediate results and his political image, is seen by many in power as the man who can end a long and costly conflict for Washington. For him, a ceasefire, even if it means surrendering territory, is a success in the face of an endless war.

This approach has been met with concern in the European Union. The main European states, not to be left out of the game, have demanded that any agreement be not simply the product of an American formula, but a solution that protects the European order and its principles. However, the reality is that without the support of the United States, now under the leadership of Trump, the process of achieving a lasting peace becomes much more difficult for Kiev.

This situation should alarm not only Ukraine, but also the small countries of Europe and the Balkans: when the world superpower demands “peace” at all costs, the principles of territorial integrity and state sovereignty often conflict with the logic of negotiations. Any great power moving in the field of global conflict will look at its own interests before protecting the rights of other peoples.

Zelensky is resisting not just for a piece of land, but for a universal principle: that a nation should not surrender to satisfy the diplomatic ambitions of others. And in a world where great powers often put self-interest over justice, this resistance is more important than ever./ Pamphlet
