Former porn star Stormy Daniels faces more questions during former President

Porn actress Stormy Daniels faced fresh questions Thursday during the New York trial of former President Donald Trump about her claim that she had a sexual relationship with him in 2006. Ms. Daniels claims Mr. Trump paid her $130,000 dollars in 2016 to ensure her silence about the relationship as voters prepared to give their verdict in the presidential election.

During testimony on Tuesday, Ms. Daniels told the 12-member jury that she hates Mr. Trump and wants him "held accountable" and sent to prison if found guilty.

Mr Trump, the first former US president to face criminal charges, has rejected Ms Daniels' account of the affair. He also denies all 34 charges brought against him. If found guilty, he could be sentenced to probation or up to four years in prison.

Mr. Trump is accused of falsifying the Trump Organization's business records to conceal reimbursement for a $130,000 payment to Ms. Daniels through monthly checks issued in 2017 to his former lawyer and political middleman Michael Cohen. Mr. Cohen had made the payment to Ms. Daniels by putting up the value of his home as collateral.

Mr. Trump claims to have reimbursed Mr. Cohen for his legal work. Defense lawyers have suggested that the payments to Ms. Daniels were intended to hide the relationship from Mr. Trump's wife, Melania, and that the payments were not intended to influence the outcome of the 2016 election.

Ms. Daniels acknowledged that she does not intend to pay Mr. Trump the $560,000 she is owed in legal fees from defamation lawsuits a former lawyer brought against Mr. Trump, which she lost.

Lawyer Necheles accused Ms. Daniels of seeking to make money from Mr. Trump through the non-talk payment agreement.

"False," Ms. Daniels replied.

“That's what you did, wasn't it?” asked the attorney Necheles again.

“False!” Ms. Daniels said, almost shouting into the courtroom.

The defense attorney also accused Ms. Daniels of fabricating a story about an unidentified man who threatened her and her young daughter in a Las Vegas parking lot in 2011, telling her to stop talking about her relationship with him. Trump.

"The whole story was made up, wasn't it?" asked lawyer Necheles.

"No, nothing was made up," Mrs. Daniels said flatly. The man Ms. Daniels said threatened her was never identified.

After attorney Necheles finished questioning Ms. Daniels, prosecutor Susan Hoffinger said she would have further questions for her.

Mr. Trump, sitting at the defense table a short distance from the witness stand, appeared visibly angry at times with Ms. Daniels' testimony.

On Tuesday, court records showed that Judge Juan Merchan, speaking to the sidelines with defense attorney Todd Blanche and prosecutors, told Mr. Blanche that: "I understand that your client is upset at this point, but he is cursing out loud and nods visibly, and that has the potential to intimidate the witness, and the jury sees that."

Blanche's attorney assured the judge that he would talk to Mr. Trump to stop making comments from the defense table. / VOA
