Khamenei was nowhere to be found, as the secret meeting between the US and Iran

Trump ready to meet with Iranian leader...

Donald Trump and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan secretly tried to arrange a meeting between senior American and Iranian officials in Istanbul this week, amid the escalation of the war between Israel and Iran.

But the effort, initiated by the Turkish president, fell through when Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, hiding for fear of assassination, was unable to approve it, Axios reported, citing three US officials and a source with direct knowledge of the matter. Trump even offered to attend in person if necessary.

Meanwhile, Erdogan has told Iran's foreign minister that resuming nuclear talks with the US is the only way to resolve the conflict with Israel and the dispute over its nuclear program, according to the Reuters news agency.

Erdogan met with Abbas Araqchi in Istanbul today and said that Turkey is ready to play a facilitating role to help restart nuclear talks between Iran and the US.

The Turkish president has said that Israel's decision to attack Iran just before nuclear talks with the United States was an act of sabotage.

Also today, the president of Turkey strongly condemned Israel's actions in the Middle East during his speech at the 51st session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which is being held in Istanbul.

Speaking before the leaders of Islamic countries, Erdogan accused Israel of pursuing a systematic policy of destruction and occupation in the last two years, unconditionally supported by Western countries.

"For two consecutive years, Israel has pursued policies of destruction, occupation and violence, and for this it has received unconditional support from Western countries. Israel has not only attacked Gaza, but also Lebanon, Yemen and Syria. Now, our neighbor Iran is also facing Israeli state terrorism," Erdogan said.

The Turkish president described Benjamin Netanyahu's government as "the biggest obstacle to regional peace" and strongly condemned Israeli attacks on Iran.
