The Kremlin has criticized the US and Israel for starting the war, while warning the world about the consequences of the conflict.
Dmitry Peskov, Vladimir Putin's spokesman, asked about Donald Trump's post on Truth Social in which he swore and threatened new escalation if Iran did not reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 1am UK time on Wednesday.
"We note that the level of tension in the region is growing and continues to grow. In fact, the entire region is on fire. These are all very dangerous and negative consequences of the aggression that was unleashed against Iran," Peskov told reporters in Moscow.
Peskov also warned of the expansion of the geographical scope of the fighting and its consequences.
"The geography of this conflict has expanded and now we are all aware of the consequences we are having, including very, very negative consequences for the global economy ," he said.
Putin has condemned attacks by the US and Israel, with the Russian president calling the strike that killed Iran's supreme leader at the start of the war a "cynical assassination", but there have been few signs of actual intervention in support of Moscow's ally.
There have been reports that Iran has received information from the Kremlin about the movements of American and Israeli troops, but many analysts have said that Tehran's ability to act on this may be limited.
The war in Ukraine is also a factor, Putin may be reluctant to anger Donald Trump, who has pursued a much softer stance toward Moscow in his efforts to end that war.
And silence could also help Russia's finances.
The US lifted sanctions on some Russian oil sales due to rising global energy prices, which have been boosted by Tehran's effective closure of the vital Strait of Hormuz (the strait handles a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas transit).
Trump's threat
US President Donald Trump yesterday threatened Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, adding that otherwise, the US will send hell to Iran.
In a post on the "TruthSocial" network, Trump, using extremely vulgar language, called Iranian leaders "crazy bastards" and warned that attacks like the one on the bridge and the power plant would be more powerful in the coming days.
Finally, he closed his post with the phrase often used by Muslims around the world; "Thanks be to Allah."
"Tuesday will be Power Plant Day and Bridge Day, all rolled into one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Damn Strait, you crazy bastards, or you will live in Hell - JUST WATCH! Thanks be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP," Trump wrote.
