A seemingly "quiet" teacher with distinction and a presence in the video game industry is the perpetrator of the shooting at last night's reception attended by Donald Trump.
The 31-year-old managed to enter the hall armed with a shotgun, a pistol and knives, raising serious questions about security measures and the motives behind the attack.
The teacher arrested for the shooting at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner was identified by a law enforcement official as Cole Thomas Allen, a young man from the Los Angeles area who, as seen on social media, is a Caltech graduate, works as a part-time teacher and is a video game creator.
The official said Allen, about 31 years old, is a resident of Torrance, a coastal city in the South Bay region of California, near Los Angeles and bordering the Santa Monica Bay region.

He had donated money to Kamala Harris' campaign.
The Washington police chief said investigators believe the suspect was a guest at the Hilton Hotel where the annual dinner was being held.
New Federal Election Commission records show he made a $25 donation to Kamala Harris' campaign in October 2024.
Allen's motives remain unknown, but according to a US media report, he allegedly told authorities after his arrest that he was targeting officials in the Trump administration.
Authorities said Allen was taken into custody after "running" through a security checkpoint and eluding officers at the entrance to the scene. Security camera footage shows him running through metal detectors as officers rush toward him with weapons drawn. The gunman was not injured in the shooting, but was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Police said he was armed with a shotgun, a handgun and several knives.
The fact that the gunman managed to get so close to the reception hall has been widely commented on social media, with many people questioning whether there was a legal loophole in the venue's security measures that Allen exploited.
A BBC journalist, who was present at the event and described his experience, referred specifically to the security measures, noting that, despite the blockade of the roads around the hotel, checks at the entrance were limited.

Allen is one of four children in the family, with two sisters and a brother, and photos circulating online show him smiling at family gatherings and graduation ceremonies.
