US President Donald Trump has reacted again after Saturday's event and claimed that he initially thought the sound of a gunman entering the hall and shooting was the sound of a tray falling.
"Actually, it was completely shocking to me and that never changes. I heard a noise and I thought it was a tray. I thought it was a tray going down multiple times. Then I saw someone with a gun and some people figured it out pretty quickly. Others didn't. I was looking to see what was going on, maybe I should have come down a little faster," Trump said.
He then also shared how his wife, Melania Trump, experienced the situation, saying that the first lady had sensed that something bad was happening.
"I think Melania was very aware of what happened. I think she understood it immediately. She was even saying 'it's a bad noise, I don't like it,'" he added.
When the incident occurred, Trump was sitting at the high table inside the ballroom at the Washington Hilton hotel, where the dinner has been held for decades, chatting with his wife.
"It's a dangerous profession," Trump joked.
"Nobody told me this was such a dangerous thing. But I'm here to do a job," he declared.
