The speaker of Iran's parliament, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, has mocked President Donald Trump's claims that he has defeated Iran.
Responding to a post with X about Trump, Ghalibaf said the US president "has claimed to 'beat' us 9 times in the last two weeks. Ridiculous!"
It is not clear which nine comments Ghalibaf is referring to, but Trump has claimed that the US is winning the war with Iran on several occasions.
Yesterday, Trump posted on Truth Social that the US has “totally defeated and destroyed Iran, both militarily, economically and in every other way.” He said in another social media post on Friday that Iran is “totally defeated and wants a deal, but not a deal I would accept!”
On the other hand, US President Donald Trump said that a number of countries are ready to join in an effort to ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz, following his call for help.
"They're not only committed, they think it's a great idea," he told NBC News in an interview.
According to the report, Trump said it was not clear whether Iran had laid mines in the strait.
"We will cross the strait very strongly and we believe that we will be joined by other countries that are somewhat hindered, and in some cases prevented from getting oil," he was quoted as saying.
When asked if the US Navy would begin escorting ships through the strait, he said "it's possible."
Trump announced on March 14 that many countries would send warships, along with the United States, to the Strait of Hormuz to keep one of the world's most important waterways open and safe. He urged Britain, China, South Korea, France and Japan, among others, to do so.
