The commander of the ground forces of Kiev, Oleksandr Shirsky, declared that his army has penetrated the Russian defense line near Bakhmut. He said that after taking Andriivka and Klitsiivka, the enemy's defense line was broken, adding that these villages were an important element in the Russian defense line from Bakhmut to Gorlifka.
According to the general, three Russian brigades, 72, 31 and 83, were destroyed and completely lost their ability to fight in the war near Bakhmut. Sirsky admitted, however, that "the overall situation in the eastern area remains complicated" and "fierce fighting near Bahamut continues."
Ukraine announced on Friday the recapture of Andriyivka and on Sunday that of Klitsyivka, located south of Bakhmut. The city, which had a population of 70,000 before the Russian invasion in February 2022, was captured last May after months of bloody fighting.
In June, Ukraine launched a counteroffensive to regain lost territory after receiving Western weapons and training new brigades.
