A new scandal involving sex trafficking and violence, reminiscent of the Jeffrey Epstein case, is causing a real earthquake in the United States, and especially in the world of high finance in New York.
Those caught in the eye of the storm are 70-year-old Howard Rubin, a former manager of Soros Fund Management, known for his previous collaboration with other well-known companies such as Bear Stearns and Merrill Lynch, and his 45-year-old assistant Jennifer Powers.
The couple is accused of running a vast sex trafficking ring that involved dozens of women between 2009 and 2019, and more, as charges filed in Brooklyn court allege torture of the victims.
"According to the prosecution's allegations, the defendants exploited Rubin's wealth to lure and recruit women to engage in commercial sex acts," explained District Attorney Joseph Nocella Jr., "whom he tortured beyond their consent, causing them lasting physical and psychological pain and, in some cases, actual physical injury."
The investigation reveals a two-year period from 2009 to 2011, in which the activity took place in luxury hotels in Manhattan and then, until 2017, in a top-floor apartment near Central Park.
Inside the residence was a room called the "prison", characterized by its soundproof red walls and a veritable arsenal of tools used for BDSM (Bondage-Discipline, Domination-Submission and Sadomasochism) and physical torture inflicted on victims, including electric shocks.
According to the lawsuit, the women Rubin hired for his dubious business had not given their consent to anything beyond simple sexual intercourse, and therefore the extreme BDSM practices would have constituted real abuse, causing physical and psychological consequences for the victims.
Taking advantage of financial resources, the two spent a million dollars to lure desperate women who were struggling financially and with addiction. Recruited from all over the country, the victims were flown to New York's LaGuardia or JFK airports: Rubin himself organized everything, including the complaints after the rapes.
To avoid trouble, the evil couple forced their victims to sign statements: "they asked their victims to assume the risk of the dangers and injuries of BDSM encounters and to agree not to disclose information about BDSM sex, with a penalty for breach of agreement."
Both were arrested on Friday, September 26, on charges of sex trafficking and now face 15 years to life in prison.
