King Charles III and Queen Camilla will meet Pope Leo XIV as part of a state visit to the Vatican in October.
A previous official visit to the Vatican was postponed earlier this year due to the poor health of the Pope's predecessor, Pope Francis.
The King and Queen paid a brief private visit to Pope Francis in April, on their 20th wedding anniversary, in what turned out to be one of the late Pope's last meetings with a high-profile visitor before he died later that month.
Charles and Camilla's visit is expected to celebrate the ecumenical work of the Church of England and the Catholic Church, reflecting the Jubilee year's theme of walking together as a "Pilgrim of Hope".
The King is the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, a role that dates back to the time of Henry VIII, who called himself Supreme Head of the Church of England after being excommunicated by Pope Paul III and breaking away from the Catholic Church in the 16th century for marrying Anne Boleyn.
The King has previously visited the Vatican five times as Prince of Wales and met with three popes.
He was received by Francis during visits to the Vatican in 2017 and 2019, and by Benedict XVI in 2009. He met John Paul II during his visit to Britain in 1982 and attended the Polish pope's funeral at the Vatican in 2005.
