Sergei Shoigu and Putin

In Russia, everything changed so that nothing changes. At least for now. Vladimir Putin has introduced a reshuffle of his new government, removing Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who has held the post since 2012.

In his place, that is, in the direction of the war in Ukraine, comes the former deputy prime minister, a graduate in economics, Andrej Belusov, who has no experience in the field of defense. In other words, now the head of the Kremlin remains the sole leader of the operation in Ukraine.

In this wave of departures, the Russian president left Nikolai Patrushev, his former godfather in the Soviet secret service, the KGB, out of a job. Shoigu took the leadership of the Security Council of the Federation, this very important body since it determines what constitutes a threat and the measure of response, including the use of the nuclear arsenal.

International analysts think that the reformation of the government in military terms constitutes a significant change in this fifth term of Putin, as it shows the first real break in over 2 years of war in Ukraine.

Belusov's arrival at the Ministry of Defense signals a war that will last for a long time, as Moscow adjusts its economy for it.

Ukraine wanted to surprise the new head of the Russian army by launching missiles in the Belgorod region.

According to reports, 19 people lost their lives and 27 others were injured. Moscow retaliated by attacking the airport used for the bombing in Belgorod.

When Prigozhin was openly asking Putin to overthrow him

Shoigu, since the first year of the war, and specifically from the end of 2022, was out of favor with the Kremlin, but not with Putin himself, as it turned out.

The man who was as close to Putin as anyone, the "President's cook" and head of Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin, openly criticized Shoigu's battlefield tactics in the harshest terms.

Prigozhin went from the first major defeats in Kharkov and on the outskirts of Kiev, to the open quest of the Russian President for the dismissal of the Minister of Defense.

The "disappearance" of Shoigu and the scenarios about his health

There was an important period, at the beginning of 2023, when Moscow also lost Kherson, when Shoigu practically disappeared from the scene.

Serious analysts, as well as Western media, openly questioned his state of health and raised "burning" questions about whether the Russian military strongman and close friend of Putin was still alive.
The Kremlin responded with a flurry of public appearances by Shoigu, who may not have been replaced but has never regained the momentum he had before Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Two years later and with Putin having "broken up" with the man he wanted dead, Shoigu, the latter is out of the ministry most important to Russia's goals today.

What does this election of Vladimir Putin signal?

It is known that with this move, Putin sets the tone for what he intends to do, but also what will follow on the battlefield.

Given that Moscow is now striking at the same points where it was defeated in February 2022, it is clear that the Russian president wants the original invasion plan to be implemented.

The departure of the defense minister makes it clear from within who was "to blame" for the complete failure of the first attempt. The overthrow of Shoigu throws from Putin's shoulders the "blasphemy" of the failure, for which he blames entirely and above all without the slightest clarifying statement about Shoigu...

In the second year, the Russian president will again decide on the developments of the coming months the person with absolute confidence only that the new minister will have to give completely different guarantees about the results that will come out and about the time of execution of a new operation in Ukraine.

It would be impossible for Putin to push Shoigu further, and it was probably painful for him to remove him during his previous term.

For Putin, who is a fan of semiotic movements, the inauguration for the fifth time in the Presidency should be accompanied by mobility and corresponding beginnings in what is left behind...

The evidence today shows as in February 2022 that Russia has comparative advantages in many of the critical areas of a war. Two years ago this was not enough…
