With the public austerity package announced by the Minister of Treasury and Finance, Mehmet Shimşek, public personnel in Turkey were banned from using foreign-made vehicles, except those permitted by law, meaning the "Made in Turkey" vehicle, TOGG.
In addition to defense and security areas, public personnel transportation services will be removed in areas where public transportation is available, Turkish media reported.
The Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Shimşek stated that in addition to the ban on the purchase of foreign vehicles, the number of public vehicles will also be reduced.
"We are banning the purchase and leasing of new vehicles in the public sector for 3 years. The use of foreign-made vehicles will be prohibited, except those permitted by law. Also, the renewal of existing vehicle contracts will be subject to for rent. The vehicles that have excess requirements and have completed their economic "life" will be liquidated with the service of personnel in the public sector, except for defense and security," said Minister Shimşek.
