US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has strongly criticized Israel for its conduct in the war in Gaza.
According to foreign media, he stressed that Israeli tactics have brought "terrible loss of innocent civilian lives" but have failed to neutralize Hamas leaders and could fuel an ongoing insurgency.
Blinken stressed that the United States believes that Israeli forces should "get out of Gaza," but is also waiting to see credible plans from Israel for security and governance in the territory after the war.
He added that Hamas has re-emerged in part of Gaza and that the action of Israeli forces in the southern town of Rafah risks making it responsible for an ongoing insurgency.
Blinken said the United States has been working with Arab countries and other countries for weeks to develop "plans for security, governance and reconstruction" in Gaza, but "we haven't seen that coming from Israel. He emphasizes that it is necessary to see this initiative from Netanyahu.
Blinken also said that if Israel moves further south of Rafah, where he says Hamas has four battalions and more than 1 million civilians have gathered, a military operation could "have some initial success" but risk "terrible damage." ” for the population.
We recall that tensions started on October 7 after an attack against Israel by Hamas that killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, while around 250 people were taken hostage.
Israel's offensive has killed more than 35,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.
