US presidential election: Serbian leaders invite the Serbian diaspora in America to vote for Donald Trump
Bosnian Serb political leader Milorad Dodik, targeted by US sanctions, urged members of the Serbian diaspora in the United States on Monday to vote for Republican candidate Donald Trump, who he says is a leader of "peace".
"I invite all members of the Serbian community in the United States of America to support the Republican candidate Donald Trump in the presidential elections," wrote Milorad Dodik on his Instagram account.
"Having him back at the helm of the United States would mean a sane and just foreign policy on which global stability depends," continued the president of Republika Srpska, the Bosnian Serb entity.
Such close competition
According to the latest US census, cited by the Serbian-American Friendship Club website, about 180,000 Serbs and 200,000 Serbian-Americans live in the United States. But the Serbian diaspora in the United States, which resides especially in the Chicago area, is actually estimated at more than one million people, according to the same source.
The race between the Republican candidate and his Democratic rival Kamala Harris is so close that only a few tens of thousands of votes can decide the outcome of the election.
Milorad Dodik, a politician close to the Kremlin and who has led the Serbian entity since 2006, was sanctioned in 2017 and in 2022 by the US government for his separatist policy in Bosnia; he was accused of "eroding the institutions that have ensured peace and stability"
