Trump's "game" with Iran through Gaza

US relations with Iran have always been turbulent since the 1979 Islamic revolution. A series of tensions, threats, with small attempts at appeasement, usually leading to new tensions. All this until the dawn of the second Trump era.

The US president has decided to approach relations with Iran through the Scottish shower method, something he is accustomed to doing on many issues. Instead of distance, he chose to send a letter to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in which, among other things, he gives him a two-month deadline to reach a new agreement on Iran's nuclear program. He initially proposes talks on the nuclear program, and then becomes indirectly but clearly threatening, stating that there are two ways to deal with Iran: military or an agreement "that will prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons."

Khamenei, as expected, responded that Tehran would not be intimidated into talks by "excessive demands and threats."

Gaza as a medium for messages

But the US president is not content with just letters. After the collapse of the ceasefire in Gaza, in full agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he is using military operations and bombings as a "signal" to Tehran. It has also decided to become more actively involved in developments in the region, taking military action against the Houthi rebels.

Iran finds itself weakened, compared to the past, especially in relation to its allies. Hamas's operational power has been dealt a severe blow with the virtual flattening of Gaza, Hezbollah is considered a thing of the past, while the collapse of the Assad regime creates another disadvantageous situation for the Iranians in the region.

Trump-Netanyahu with a common goal

For the Trump-Netanyahu duo, according to them, the new phase of the war in the Middle East is a favorable situation. The Israeli prime minister continues the war, a war that, according to his critics, is necessary for his political survival, and on the other hand, Donald Trump is conveying in this way that he will not hesitate to respond in an equally harsh manner if Iran refuses to sit at the table with him, taking the role of the weak side from the beginning.

Playing with fire

The American president will insist on a tough line against Iran, sending messages through Gaza and Netanyahu's ally. Khamenei warned the Americans with a "heavy slap", but they know that words are light and everything is judged by action. In addition, the revenge that Iran chose when it was hit by Israel was "reasonable", precisely to avoid escalating tension. However, it is not known where words stop and reality begins, what is certain and proven by history is that there is only one game in the region: the one with fire.
