Joe Kent, the former US counterterrorism chief who resigned from Donald Trump's administration over the conflict with Iran, has called on the president to end the war as soon as possible.
Reacting to Trump's speech, Kent wrote on the X platform that continuing the war is not the way to honor the American fallen.
He stressed that "we do not honor our fallen by killing more of our best men and women in the Middle East," adding that honoring them comes through learning from the mistakes of the past.
According to him, "we honor our fallen by learning from our past and shedding only American blood in defense of our nation."
Kent warned of the consequences of continuing the conflict, stressing that "the best time to exit a war of choice is now, before we lose more lives."
He resigned on March 17 from his position as director of the National Counterterrorism Center, stating earlier that he could not continue in office "with a clear conscience" due to the war against Iran, which he considers launched without Congressional authorization and in coordination with Israel.
